Can you upgrade a PCI video card into your computer if it has a different memory type?

i.e. I want to get a new ati graphics card, with a pci bus. It has DDR2 memory, but my computer uses only DDR memory. Will the new card work for sure in my system, because although i have heard it should be compatible, will it be compatible even if your getting a video card WITH A BETTER AND NEWER MEMORY TYPE?|||No it does not matter if you are running ddr ram and the video card has ddr2 ram i had a computer that had a 256mb graphics card with 256 ddr2 and the motherboard was running with ddr 400 did not make a diffrence as the memory between the two are no used togeather they are seperate hope this helps!!:)|||I think is working , because only the motherboard need to run the same type of memory.|||I would think so.

Your system RAM and the video card RAM are separate things.

Just need to check the card is compatible with the motherboard slot and your OS (like Vista).
