What is the best PCI video card i can buy?

my computer only has PCI slots. im running an ATI radeon 9250 128mb right now, and im wondering whether upgrading to 256mb will make a difference. what is the best gpu to get that runs on PCI?

btw, this is the old PCI, not PCI express. i cant afford a new comp so a new card will have to do for now.|||You pretty much have the best PCI video card that you can get.

If you wanted a DX9 card I suppose you could go with an Nvidia 5500 which is available as a PCI card but whether it would be a step up is debatable.

Yes, the Nvidia does have a Dx9 card on a PCI bus, but it is horribly outdated and probably still won't be very good with any modern games.

The Radeon 9250 is generally preferably in picture quality to the 5500 anyways.

As for more video memory, probably won't do a lot for you. More memory may help with increased resolution but not with speed.

A thought for you though....you say you can't afford a new computer but perhaps just a mobo, cpu and cheap video card?

You could get a Sempron processor, mobo with PCI-e, and Nvidia 6600 all together for under $100. If you can use your current case, ram, drives, etc it might be an option. Anyways, just a thought.|||radion|||here,

i wouldnt spend any more than that on an outdated card, but this should be a good upgrade.|||I had a 9250 on a Dell 2350 about 5 years ago, it lacked an AGP slot as well so I feel your pain, but honestly you are pretty much stuck with that 9250, PCI video cards were thrown up there before AGP was created as an option for dual monitor or an upgrade (as most computers came with onboard graphics which im almost positive is the case for you). I hate to say it but you are pretty much SOL until you can afford a new pc =/.
